AT A GLANCE
Total brew time is about 5 minutes.
French Press truly is one of the best ways to experience the magic that coffee has. A French press will allow you to control all parts of the extraction including the water temperature. Considering there is no paper filter, you will get the coffee’s full flavor!
French pressing your coffee is dense and heavy, yet it has its own sort of elegance. To fully experience the delight of French Press you must drink it immediately after brewing so it doesn’t become bitter and/or chalky. A lesson I learned very quickly. For me it only takes about five minutes to brew. Let’s get started:
Brewing Suggestion
Step 1
Fill your kettle with water and bring it to a boil. For an 18-oz press, you’ll need about 20-oz. of water give or take.
Step 2
As the water is heating up, take this time to grind your coffee. French press coffee is best with a coarse grind. I recommend starting with a 1:10 coffee-to-water radio to start with. If you’re using 20-oz of water which is 350 grams, you’ll want about 35 grams of coffee.
Step 3
Pour your ground coffee into the French Press and gently shake it back and forth to settle the grounds.
Step 4
Pour about half of your hot water evenly over the grounds. This step is called the “bloom.” The hot water forces the ground coffee to release trapped gases, leading to expansion of the coffee and wonderful aromas for you to enjoy.
Step 5
Give the grounds a gentle stir. I use a spoon but you don’t have too. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30-45 seconds.
Step 6
Add the rest of your water and position the lid gently on top of the ground coffee. BUT don’t plunge just yet. Let the coffee steep for at least four minutes.
Step 7
Slowly press the plunger all the way down to filter the grounds from the coffee.
Step 8
When you’ve finished pressing, pour the coffee immediately into your mug - if it sits for too long in your French press it will turn bitter as it will continue brewing and over-extract.
Step 9
Sit back and enjoy your French Pressed Stickboy Coffee!!!!
