The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced its plans to remove Endangered Species Act protections from the Yellowstone grizzly bear which places them in grave danger of being hunted. Under the ESA’s umbrella, the status of grizzly bears has slowly, but gradually improved since 1973. Due to climate change, America’s great bears face the same looming threats that many species across the country are facing. Get off the road and on the trails! One of the only trail races in our area, the Deer Fly 5/10K features both dirt roads and trails. You will thoroughly enjoy running the well canopied Winona Forest race course. Nothing technical on this route, the trails are designed to be relatively smooth, so you can enjoy the running experience. There are no major climbs on the 5K course, most on wide dirt path/road, ending with about 1 mile of single track. Hey look it's the Ritz Carlton! Okay that might not be true but it was my home for a few days as I competed in one of the most difficult races around. I decided that riding a mountain bike for 24 hours would be a little to easy so I decided to compete on a fat bike.
